The World of Pico

Themistius (300?)

Themistius, d. 388CE. Drawn from Ermolao Barbaro's translation of Themistius' Paraphrases of the De anima and Posterior Analytics. The work was first printed with related texts in 1481 ... As is true in the case of other late-ancient Aristotelian commentators, it is difficult to know whether to lablel Themistius as an Aristotlean or Platonist. Pico heatedly rejected the latter view in his polemics with Antonio da Faenza.
